chocolate momos

Old Manali, India

// Ever heard of chocolate momos? Well here they are!  Momos are Tibetan like dumplings (you can get them fried or steamed, usually with meat and veg in them).  Here is the ultimate combination of a fried chocolate dumpling served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.  The perfect sweets combination.  Who knew that you’d find something like this in India?

// Experimenting with the new tools in picasa.  Here’s one of a Muslim Morocoon man that we met whilst visiting a Jewish synagogue tucked away in the back streets of the Medina.  He’s the gatekeeper in spite of being Muslim.

thought

Fes, Morocco

// I like thinking.  This is a great photo representing just that. When I’m thinking, those throughts are mine, shrouded behind a veil, hiding elusively behind textiles of warmth, fun and silent giggles.  It’s my own moment.  It’s my own to keep.

the medina

Fes, Morocco

// Been awhile since I last blogged. I think it’s enough of India and back onto the rest of the world although there will be plenty more of India popping up here and there because I have so many more awesome shots to share.

Another one of my most favourite places in the world is Fes.  This photo was taken in the labyrinth of the medina which conjures feelings of ancient warmth and electic mystery.

Amritsar, India
// Took this photo at the Golden Temple’s gurudwara where masses of Sikhs, mostly pilgrims would have their free meals (donation based)  There weren’t many toursits in the eating hall surprinsingly.  I suppose most of them either didn’t know about it, only wanted to check out the Temple itself or simply didn’t know whether or not they were allowed to join in.  I’d have to say that this experience (we ate there twice) really completed the whole Golden Temple experience.  There was a strong atmosphere of hospitality, servitutde, kindness, generosity and community.

community

One of the things that I truly enjoyed about my time in India, was the sense of community that I not only felt but got to experience.  Spending most of my time in a small town, there really is an interdependence on one another and a strong personal social networking presence.

On one of the picnics that I went to, a group of the men had gone up a day earlier and camped over night to set up the cooking and music so that the rest of us could have a more enjoyable time the next day.  They even served up the food and made sure that it was still quality in spite of it being somewhat outdoor camping style!

// Serving one another lunch for the day

// Look how yummy the food was.  I was so spoilt.

While we were shopping in Old Manali, this little young calf decides to go for a little shopping spree too.  This is the kind of thing that makes India so unique and unreal all the time.
